The reason the second bounce is so much different than the first is because of the spin reacting differently to the angles. A forward spin one way pops it up in the air, but the same spin going the other way puts the momentum downward. The camera angle makes it look a little screwy too.

I can only assume he's trying to hit the 3 first with that making it a kookie legal jump shot, but close enough.
