Brady actually avoided possible injury by getting taken out of the play. He came back and made the stop on the 5 yard line and the 49ers turned the ball over a couple plays later. I'm no Pats fan, but he did the right thing. And yeah, QB's take a hell of a lot of punishment. When rugby players come to the NFL, they become punters.

He was avoiding the blocker to get to the guy with the ball. Getting steamrolled by the blocker wouldn't have accomplished anything.

His salary, bringing in tens of millions (hundreds of millions with endorsements) is all focused on his arm. Quarterbacks are even taught to slide for a down rather than take a hit and risk the slightest injury to their hand, wrist, elbow, etc.
Lets say you might make over a hundred million dollars, playing a game, all due to your arm, and someone is coming at you and would happily break your wrist.
