I had a dog that did the EXACT same thing. We were not at home and a freak thunderstorm/windstorm kicked up and started really thrashing everything around. We found him (by chance) driving back ~2k from home running down the road. As soon as he saw us he doubled back running all the way home.
The idea this dog understood this unique problem (hard to find house for emergency vehicles), knew what to do, ran out to the road, knew where to wait, knew who to wait for and lead them in is laughable.
You animal people and your stupid stories/cat gifs.
