You yell at a dog and spank it when it shits in the house, it'll learn it's lesson and get the fuck out next time.
You can't really yell at or spank a cat, they're too cool for that. Any sort of punishment at all will result in the cat leaving the house for a bit and coming back at night to take a shit in the house.
