Second, it's NOT just the art itself, but the SKILL of the user that matters more than almost anything; someone who practices generic MMA fighting styles, if they're good and skilled enough, could kick the shit out of someone who practices any different form of martial art, including Jeet Kun Do or Krav Maga. Hell, someone who DOESN'T know any form of martial art could be a good enough fighter to take on someone who practices a martial art, and I have seen that...

Also, just because someone knows a particular art DOES NOT mean they know what they're doing with it. I've seen way too many people, who know various forms of martial arts, that aren't worth a shit in a fight. Why? Most of the time, especially here in the U.S., they take a few classes and think they're badasses, without ever realizing the dedication and time it actually takes to truly learn a martial art style. Sure, they may know the basics of, say, karate, but they don't know how to apply what they know to any everyday situations or real fights, thinking only in terms of how they used what little skill they have in their classes, and proceed to have their asses handed to them by someone who probably doesn't even know any form of hand-to-hand combat, and is just simply a better fighter, period.

And this is not to even mention size. Yes, size CAN MATTER in a fight, even if the bigger person doesn't necessarily know how to fight very well. You can't possibly believe that someone that's 5'1" and 115 pounds, no matter if they're the grandest of masters in every martial art on Earth, is gonna last more than 5 seconds, if THAT, against someone who is 6'5" and 300 pounds. Most of the time, even if that big guy can't throw a decent punch to save his life, they can take more punishment than most average or smaller people, at least in my own experience. Not only that, but if the bigger guy gets on top of the smaller guy, he can simply just use his size to manipulate and smother his opponent to a great advantage.

Finally, ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN IN A FIGHT. Sometimes, not even skill can overcome the right/lucky blow at the right and/or luckiest time. No matter how good you may be at whatever particular art you may practice, you're probably not gonna stay conscious from a direct strike to your temple or kidney area, and you're prone to dying if struck in either spot. This is also not to mention lacerations, concussions, possible internal bleeding/hemorrhaging, and possible broken bones. It doesn't take skill to do things like that, and NO ONE is immune to injury. PERIOD.

This may be the gayest thing I've ever seen. Re the UFC comment: the guy on the ground doesn't know the first thing about ground fighting (or fighting, for that matter). That's not a proper guard, and that's not when you go into a guard. No disrespect to Krav Maga or Jeet Kun Do, btw. JKD was one of the first modern "Asian" martial arts to integrate ground fighting with striking. Krav Maga utilizes grappling, too. In short, wtf?

Actually, most UFC fighters train to be on their backs in this position. It's called 'the guard,' major role in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
