it's very difficult for most black people to straighten their hair, it's too kinky, so wigs amongst them are somewhat common

That explains why they wear wigs, but not why they want to have straight hair.

they want to have straight hair because society has told them over the years that their hair is kinky and undesirable. It's become part of their culture now because it's embedded into their consciousness. Even black people use the terms "bad hair" and "good hair" to describe nappy or straight hair, respectively.
