If they stay together, but avoid having kids till after college and a paid off house(she will likely be over 35 making getting pregnant increasingly unlikely, also making her an increasingly unfit mother, (and him most likely unable to teach his son much about the world)) unable to adapt they can be among the many that will live the horror that is being without children or other forms of lineage and spending the rest of their days wishing that they hadn't wasted all those good years on collecting paper for a house that is far too big for just the 2 of them.

Remember to wait though, guys, rich people are the ones that are happy, and poor people only regret having nice lives that didn't revolve around collecting trinkets.
