I'm not sure exactly what that is that flies off in mid flight, but I remember hearing on some history channel show or something that tank rounds arm themselves only after they're a certain distance away from the tank. Could be the round arming itself as I have no idea what that looks like if you can even see it.

Well if you watch it carefully it's the black ring that get's blown off mid flight. if you watch it carefully you'll see.
