not only did that truck stop, it came back about 10 feet from the looks of the road on impact. that's crazy. no amount of planning or carefulness could have prepared you for that.

Wrong - keeping back a safe distance would have at the very least reduced the camera vehicle's collision to at worst small bumper damage. In perfect conditions you need to stay one car length for each 6mp/h or 10km/h. However this should be increased 1.5-2x in icey or wet conditions.

Second lane..

Truck seems to have left the lane completely. Camera vehicle could had easily changed lanes and avoid the collision or at least slowed down enough to walk away had he been keeping the distance. Idiot.
