You don't stop to think about the fact that cars will swerve to avoid you. Yeah, she's lucky the van stopped, but she's also lucky no one died. I see someone die because they swerve to avoid a jaywalker? The jaywalker is next.

the truck on the far left stops for the woman. although he was basically on the curb, she may have felt that he was the lead in traffic, and any other vehicles behind him would have to stop. assuming this is true, she turns her attention in the opposite direction when the van in the road comes screaming to a halt to save her from wheeldeath

It`s a pedestrian crossing, there`s a sign on a lamppost. She can cross however she likes.

A tall truck braking in right lane, or even just standing there should ring a fucking bell to any driver.
