Well it's usually used on the body, supposed to make them be more wary and lower their hands to give you a cleaner shot... and it doesn't hurt anyone? I'd like to see you say that to Belfort, who suffered his first KO loss in that fight.
Pretty sure anytime you kick someone in the face, you're trying to at least inflict damage- if not knock them out. That's a pestering kind of kick for most fighters... but Anderson Silva is not most fighters.
