I'm guessing the babies heart stopped, and he was such a he-man the cell phone was needed to perform a pre-cordial thump?

The baby got shoved out of a tube of muscles, no doubt contracting and relaxing all the time the mother was giving birth.
Those bones can take some pressure, for sure. (The skull, of course, is immensely weak at that age.)
