being a lefty I don't present my open coller to the shooter on my left so I've never had hot brass on me. One time I also had one go up my sleeve but it never touched my skin. A buddy of mine however has a sweet scar on his neck that is the perfect shape of the 5.56 shell.

I've fired dozens of 5.56 and 7.62 rifles and the cases have never been that hot just after ejection. I mean sure, they've been warm, but not burning hot... I guess the breach heats up faster with automatic fire and transfers the heat to the cases

I had that happen to me at the range in Basic. I had a 5.56 casing go up my sleeve and it hurt like a bitch.
This other guy had a 5.56 casing bounce off the grass and the open end of the casing imprinted a circle on his face.
